TENNIS: The world's top two players, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray, say they hope Nick Kyrgios can turn his poor behaviour around, despite his shocking effort at the Shanghai Masters.

Kyrgios, 21, threw away his second-round match against Mischa Zverev on Wednesday, before being fined $22,000 for "breaches of the ATP code of conduct”.

Murray doubted a fine was the best punishment for Kyrgios, who has earned more than $4 million in prizemoney while on tour.

"I think sometimes players do need protecting ... Sometimes he goes into press and says things he regrets,” he said. "In those situations he maybe needs to be guided a little bit better.”

Djokovic said Kyrgios had much to learn if he was to fulfil his talent.

"I share the opinion of many players and many people in the tennis world, that he's one of the greatest talents that the game has ... but on the other hand, he obviously has life lessons to learn,” he said.
