RACING: A bold front-running display impressed the throng of racegoers at Corbould Park on Saturday, when Supply and Demand won the Caloundra Cup.
Steered by Josh Parr, the four-year-old gelding went to the lead early and never looked back, powering to a one-and-a-half length victory over My Diamantine, with War Baby almost a length adrift.
Trained by Sydney duo Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, the $3.80 chance claimed its third win in a row, after recent victories at Rosehill.
"I knew I was on the best horse in the race, it was just a matter of whether he got the 2400m," Parr said.
"When I went the first three quarters of the race at hack speed - they go quicker than that on the track at home - he was always going to be hard to run down.
"He really smashed them today. It was a really solid effort."
Supply And Demand races in the colours of the Gold Coast-based Henderson family of Fiorente and Descarado fame.
Stable representative Neil Paine described Supply And Demand as "a real trier."
But one of the pre-race favourites, Self Sense, never threatened in the Listed $175,000 event.
Despite winning the Ipswich Cup by almost seven lengths a fortnight ago, he struggled to get going and stayed near the back of the field for the duration of the 2400m journey.
Locals triumph
SUNSHINE Coast-based jockey Damian Browne snared back-to-back wins in the Group 3 Sunshine Coast Guineas.
He steered the Liam Birchley-trained Crack Me Up ($6.50) to a two-length win over My True Love in the $125,000 1600m race.
Another local, trainer Darryl Hansen, claimed success in the meeting's other prized race, the $175,00 Listed Glasshouse Handicap (1400m).
He saw Monsieur Gustave ($6) bag a half-length win over Snippets Land, with jockey Adam Hyeronimus aboard.
