With the regular season coming to a close for some sporting clubs and others nearing the start of an intense finals series we’ve taken a look at which Sunshine Coast sporting teams remain undefeated in the senior divisions.

From rugby league, Aussie rules, rugby union and football only three first division senior teams with unblemished records remain in 2022.

See what each coach had to say and which players had been key reasons for their teams’ success this season.

Undefeated Sunshine Coast sides

Maroochydore Swans Football Club (Men’s)

With only a few regular round games remaining in the Men’s FQPL3 competition Maroochydore sit at the top of the table with 11 wins and two draws.

The swans are closely followed by last year’s grand final winners Kawana with Woombye and Caloundra rounding out the top four.

In his first season with the Swans, head coach Warren Crickmore said he hoped to further improve in the final games of the regular season.

“Very pleased with efforts so far considering the stop start season due to weather but still there are lots of team goals not yet reached,” he said.

“All the credit for the team’s performances so far go to the players and their desire to work hard and improve.

“I don’t think that they are content just yet or I hope they’re not, because there is always room for improvement.”

Maroochydore are coming off a 2-2 draw against Noosa on August 6.

“Noosa are a strong team and our playing schedule has been extremely difficult recently playing two games a week for the last month,” he said.

“It has taken a toll with fatigue and squad injuries but taking nothing away from Noosa they played well.”

Nambour Toads Rugby Union (Women’s)

In only their second year in the competition, Nambour have again risen above expectations to finish the regular season as minor premiers with 10 wins and zero losses.

Nambour head coach Luke Zeremes said it was a huge accomplishment.

“Extremely happy with how the season has unfolded, the way the girls have performed and committed this season and very proud of what we have been able to achieve in the two years,” he said.

“We had a lot of people doubting our nomination last year when we decided to enter the competition as people told us we were too young, too small and needed to recruit bigger and better players but we’ve stayed true to what we wanted to achieve and anything from here on in is a bonus.”

The Toads were proudly represented at the South Queensland Championships earlier this year with seven players picked in the Sunshine Coast Stingrays team.

Zeremes said the experience and knowledge of what to expect in the women's competition for the second year in a row was a huge factor.

“We’ve got a handful of players that played last year who bought a fair bit of confidence to our younger girls because we do have a really young side with a whole heap still at school,” he said.

“Just having a few girls that did play last year and had some small experience in the competition has been that point of difference to our debut season.”

He said he hoped his team could further improve in the finals.

“There’s definitely improvement to come, it’s been a disjointed season with commitments of our young side of work, study, a few injuries, and illness so I still don’t know that we’ve put our best side on the paddock yet this season,” he said.

“We do keep saying that no matter who we’re missing to keep looking around your team because I’m really confident in our entire squad and being able to play the style of footy that we want to play.

“Across the board it really has been a team effort to get us where we are but I think Bek Murtagh has really had her breakout season being still relatively new to the game.

“She’s gone through the Stingrays, South Queensland and now the Queensland Country program so she’s improving with every game she plays which is the same for Bridget Carter who is going along a similar pathway.”

Maroochydore Swans Rugby Union (Colts)

With one match to play in the regular season Maroochydore have stormed out to a commanding first place on the Colts rugby union ladder.

Head coach Nathan Baughan has been impressed with his team’s six wins, one draw and three bonus point victories.

“The boys have been having a crack all season, they’ve been winning quite convincingly and really putting in heaps of effort so it makes my job easy which is good,” he said.

Following a heartbreaking loss to Noosa in the grand final last year, the Swans are looking to further improve in their final matches.

“There’s definitely a bit of a target on our backs as everyone always wants to knock off top spot but the boys also have room to improve,” Baughan said.

“We’ve got a few new faces but kept a lot of who were those younger players from last year so it’s definitely been a motivating factor to push us through the finals.”

Baughan said he had been impressed with a number of his players.

“It’s always a team effort but there’s been a few boys and one has been Lachlan Beath who plays in the second row,” he said.

“He’s getting A-grade call ups, has been rewarded with a recent Queensland Country selection so he’s been great for us and definitely a standout.

“Cooper MacMinn in the backline is just electric, he’s also had a few A-grade call ups and has been a real shining light for us all season.”
