"We've lost a few players from last year's winning team but the other girls have stepped up and have been working really hard to be able to put their best foot forward," Mr Little said.

"It's good to see a fair few new schools enter into the competition and it will be a good day for AFL on the Sunshine Coast."

Little said he was confident his team could perform well.

"The tournament is about the kids and I'm sure each player from every school will enjoy having a kick with their mates," he said.

Little said the rise of the AFLW competition had a huge impact at the junior girls level of the sport.

"The AFLW has taken massive strides over the past few years and it's clear to see how it has progressed down to girls wanting to play sport," he said.

"Wednesday's competition will be good to see the skill levels on show and most importantly an opportunity to see everyone enjoying their day."

The first round of games will begin at 9:15am with the grand finals of both boys and girls teams to begin about 2pm.
