WOOMBYE striker Luke Alderson says the Snakes are shaping up for a cracking end to the McDonald’s Premier League season.

Alderson bagged two goals in Woombye’s 3-1 win over Buderim on Saturday night.

It was Woombye’s third successive win over the Wanderers in a streak that began in last year’s grand final.

Alderson said the defending champion was hitting sweet form with the pointy end of the season quickly approaching.

“I felt 3-1 flattered Buderim, to be honest,” he said.

“We did really well.

"We were 3-0 up and had a blatant penalty turned down, which could have made it 4-0.

“It was a great team effort and one of our top three performances for the year.”

Corey Towle put away an Alderson cross early in the match to give the away team the lead, before Alderson made it 2-0 before the 20-minute mark.

When he found the back of the net again in the second half it was 3-0 but Buderim salvaged a late goal through Shaun Callanan for a 3-1 score at the final whistle.

“We knew they were playing for their season because they’ve been hanging around the top four.

“It was a big grand final rematch and from start to the final whistle we didn’t stop.

"We pressured and pressured and we’re starting to find our combinations,” Alderson said.

Woombye is sitting in third spot, two points behind second-placed NYU and three points clear of Kawana.

Its next task is a tough encounter against resurgent Caloundra, which drew with NYU at the weekend.

“Caloundra will be hard. We drew last time with them,” Alderson said.

“They finished last last year and they’ve got some good players together.

"They’re no mugs, that’s for sure.

“If we don’t turn up, they’ll hurt us.

"We have a target on our back after winning the grand final last year.

"We have to turn up to every match and be committed.”

Woombye started the season slowly, with just four wins after nine rounds, but is starting to find the form that took it to last year’s championship.

“We started off a bit slow and we know that,” Alderson said.

“But we’ve been coming together really nicely.

"Our pressuring has been great and we’ve worked together collectively in defence.

“The attack is getting swift and we’re supporting each other really well.

“We can’t look too far ahead though.

“We started looking too far ahead at the start of the year and we were stumbling on games we should have won.

“We’ll get back to training and focus on Caloundra.”
