Selman eager to finish Scorchers stint strong

Batsman Nick Selman says he’s eager to cap another fruitful season with the Scorchers in fitting fashion before embarking on his fifth county cricket season in England.

CRICKET: Batsman Nick Selman says he's eager to cap another fruitful season with the Scorchers in fitting fashion before embarking on his fifth county cricket season in England.

The 24-year-old will finish his stint for the Sunshine Coast outfit today when they host Valley at Kerry Emery Oval.

The penultimate round for the Scorchers has been reduced from a two-day fixture to a one-dayer after heavy downpours last week.

"It's my last game for the Scorchers and obviously I'm a little bit sad but I'm looking forward to linking up with Glamorgan next Wednesday," Selman said.

"So, exciting times ahead as well."

Selman has played for the Scorchers each summer since his debut in 2017 and spends the rest of the year with first-class club Glamorgan.

He joined the Sunshine Coast outfit in round five this season and has enjoyed a solid campaign with the bat, notching scores of 48, 83, 68, 45 and 100 across his 12 innings at the crease.

"It's been awesome, I aways love coming back here and just playing with the boys and it's great fun," Selman said.

"Pugsy (coach Ashley Holznagel) he's awesome and it was great to have Sam Northeast (county cricketer) come over for a little stint just to train with him as well."

While lapping up his time on field with mates, Selman also made sure to hone his skills for the coming first-class season in England.

"I've focused a little more on my one-day and T20 skills this season, just looking to strike the ball a bit cleaner and look to ways to score against spin as well," he said

He didn't play any first-class one-day cricket last year but Selman had high hopes for what will be his fifth campaign with Glamorgan.

"T20 cricket I always play a few games here and there but I would like to cement my place in all three forms, that's a big goal," he said.

"I worked on the game over here a lot and there's no reason (why I can't do that), we've still got pre-season as well when I get back over there, so plenty of time to keep honing my skills but I'm confident I can hopefully get place at the top of the order there on the one-day scene."

Before departing next week, Selman was optimistic he could put in a strong performance against Valley on Saturday to cap his time with the Scorchers.

"Absolutely (I want to finish on a high)," he said.

"Obviously, the one-dayer probably plays in to our hands a little bit, we're more of a one-day skilled side.

"If we bat first and can get 200 plus we're in the game and hopefully we can get a win and for me personally can celebrate with a few beers and hopefully go again next year with the boys."
