EMOTIONS will be running high at Weyba Rd today when the Noosa Tigers honour club legend Marjan “Marg” Strajner, who passed away last Saturday.
Strajner had a long involvement with the club, and Tigers coach Wayne Fletcher said the side would wear black armbands for the Pineapple Hotel Cup match against Coolangatta.
“He was a really good club person, was a runner for us for a while and played for the club,” Fletcher said.
The Tigers will have a tough assignment on their hands as Coolangatta is one of the big improvers of this year’s competition.
Last weekend, Coolangatta beat Surfers Paradise, which is one of only two teams to have beaten defending premier Noosa this season.
“They’re in good form this year and we’re certainly going to have to be on our game,” Fletcher said.
“They’ve always seemed to have fairly good personnel but have lacked a bit of consistency.
“But it looks like they’ve corrected that this year.”
Noosa had a bye last weekend and Fletcher said it was a timely break.
“We’ve certainly had a few tough games in heavy conditions,” he said.
“We’ve only had one game in the fine conditions, so from that perspective it’s good to rest the bodies and freshen up.”
Former basketballer Ryley Buntain will make his senior debut for Noosa.
Fletcher said Buntain, 19, had been knocking on the selection door after strong performances in the reserves.
“He went away up north playing basketball for a couple of years,” he said.
“He’s very athletic and can play a number of roles.”
Noosa lost its last match at home against Wilston Grange.
