Four fearless students from a small Sunshine Coast primary school plan to take on the state’s finest ping pong players.
Palmview State Primary School students Sienna Elliott, Jasmine Rothwell, Lily Norup and Millie Winner have all qualified for the state table tennis championships later this week.
Year 6 students Sienna and Jasmine won gold medals as a duo at the regionals.
Jasmine said the pair were good friends away from the tables, which helped their communication.
Sienna said she had a solid forehand game which helped her in the defensive aspects of the sport.
She said she kept her skills sharpened by weekly practice sessions with her brother and father.
“I’m really looking forward to the state’s and playing with Jasmine, we are both really good,” Sienna said.
Silver medallist Lily Norup said she was shocked to do so well at the regionals and was excited at the opportunity to potentially get more at the state titles.
Fellow Year 5 student Millie Winner also bagged a silver medal but was absent from Monday’s photoshoot.
Palmview State Primary School principal Andrew Walker said the girls all had bright futures in the sport.
Mr Walker said the fearless four had all only started playing at the start of Term 1 when the school first opened.
“We are really proud of these girls who made it happen,” Mr Walker said.
“They have really earnt their success over many hours in training. It’s great to see.”
The girls will head to the Brisbane Table Tennis Club at Windsor on Friday, December 3 for the competition.
