Ashley Noffke has barely been off the pitch for six months but the Sunshine Coast cricketer is already planning for a long-term future in the game after applying for the vacant New South Wales coaching position.
Noffke, 33, retired from first-class cricket in October last year while under contract with Western Australia.
The Pelican Waters product stayed with the Warriors as a fast bowling coach for the remainder of the 2010-11 season and the club offered him the role full-time.
The all-rounder has decided, however, to leave Perth to pursue other options on the east coast.
The NSW gig is at the top of his hit-list.
Noffke's manager, Chris Pace, says the Coast product, who is a level-three coach, has applied for a number of positions.
“He's in the process of packing up his home and moving back to the Coast,” Pace said yesterday.
“He applied for the New South Wales position a month or so ago and is assessing his options.”
Noffke took 562 wickets and 4837 runs in a glittering domestic career after debuting for Queensland in 1998-99.
He played one one-day international and two Twenty20 matches for Australia and was considered unlucky to have not played a Test.
