Noosa fired up by loss

A LOSS was just what the doctor ordered to re-ignite the fire in Noosa's belly, on-baller Luke Brauer said yesterday.

A LOSS was just what the doctor ordered to re-ignite the fire in Noosa's belly, on-baller Luke Brauer said yesterday.

The Pineapple Hotel Cup defending premier suffered a nine-point loss to Surfers Paradise last Saturday, its first of the season.

Brauer said excitement levels were at a season-high this week following the loss, with the Tigers itching to get back on the winners' list against Western Magpies today.

“I think last week's loss to Surfers has been a kick in the butt for us,” he said.

“We were a bit flat. It woke us up a little bit. It's still early in the season, but it pulled us in line.

“We've been pumped at training this week and excited is probably the best word for it.”

The Magpies returned to the competition this season after two years in the QAFL top league.

They are unbeaten after three rounds and Brauer says the Tigers will have to combat Western's run if they are to win.

“We haven't seen a lot of them, but we know they're a really fit side,” he said.

“They're quick and we've just got to make sure we try and control the game on our terms.

“If we turn the ball over too much, they can hurt us.

“They are a fit, running side and we'll try and adapt to that.”

Brauer, 29, said the Tigers were a vastly different side to last year's premiership winning squad, with up to 11 new faces in the team.

“When you have 11 new guys it takes three or four games to really adapt to a playing style,” he said.

“We started off really well and all we wanted to do was win the first two games before the break and we did that against two very good sides (Palm Beach Currumbin and Burleigh).

“Beating Palmy was like an eight-point game, so we're sitting all right.”
