THE Sunshine Coast Fire has scored 21 more goals than the Whitsunday Miners so far this season.

Nevertheless, Fire coach Richard Hudson is expecting the Miners to come out attacking in tomorrow's round-eight Queensland State League clash at Kawana.

The Miners arrive on the Coast today to give themselves every chance of upsetting the competition's best side.

The Fire is coming off a 14-1 thumping of Capricorn, a result that has boosted their goal tally to 28 for the year, and Hudson says it is important for his side to come back down to earth for the Miners clash.

“It's an interesting affair for us, coming off a big result last weekend,” he said.

“We need to get our heads around it and forget about the big win. I think the hardest thing is coming back down.“We've got a lot of level-headed people, but if you score big numbers you have a tendency to be lax.

“But we've trained hard and I haven't seen any complacency.

“They (Whitsunday) are coming here a day early and training on Saturday morning, so they're coming here looking for three points.

“They're not here to make up the numbers.”

Whitsunday sits in seventh position after one win, three draws and a loss. It has scored seven goals and conceded nine.

Hudson said he expected the Miners to be a better team than their ladder position suggested.

“They're quite a good side. They've just had a lot of bad weather up there,” he said of the Mackay-based team.

“A lot of their games have been cancelled and they've hardly trained outdoors.

“The results probably don't reflect how good they are. They've spent some money and got some quality imports in the squad.”

Hudson, who is in his first season coaching the Fire, has studied videos of the Miners but has not seen them play live.

The Fire will be without Solomon Islands import Judd Molea, who is battling a virus.
