Two of the Sunshine Coast's best female AFL players have been selected to represent their state in what will be a step closer to their AFLW dream.

Maroochydore Roos players Maggie Harmer, 18, and Bella Smith, 17, play in the Bond University QAFLW competition and will represent Queensland in this weekend's 2021 NAB National U19 Championship game against Victoria Country.

The duo will travel to Melbourne on May 22 with the game to be played in Port Melbourne at midday on May 23.

Harmer, who plays as a centre-half-back, said it would be a great stepping stone to her AFLW dream.

"It's a really big achievement and a massive confidence booster for the both of us," she said.

"It's a big honour to represent my state by playing a sport I love and forming those positive relationships with teammates and coaches is really enjoyable."

Smith, who predominantly plays as a midfielder, said it would be good to test her skills against the best.

"It will be different because everyone is the same age as opposed to what were used to, playing women each week," Smith said.

"We're not as skilful as Victoria but we just work really hard for one another which is what makes our team perform to the best of our ability.

"It will be great to experience what the standard is like down there at an elite level."

Harmer said it would be good for the team to test their skills and perform at their best in front of some high profile personnel.

"I love a good challenge and it will be good for us to play against Victoria's elite players who have been a staple for women's AFL for so many years," Harmer said.

Both players will be age-eligible for the AFLW draft in October and hoped to be one of the 61 young athletes selected by an AFLW club.

Smith said although it would be an incredible achievement to be selected, she wasn't going to get too far ahead of herself.

"I really am just taking things week by week and focusing on the little things that are placed in front of me," Smith said.

"It's definitely a goal of mine and if you can play well in these types of games you're looking pretty good to picked up in the draft at the end of the year."

The team will fly home before ending the championships with a match against Victoria Metro at Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast in two weeks' time.
