Champion jockey Jimmy Orman has stated his interstate aim for the 2022/23 season with dreams to fend off the chasing pack to claim repeat Queensland Metropolitan Jockeys Premiership titles.

The recently crowned 2021/22 Metropolitan and now two-time Sunshine Coast winner beat home Ryan Maloney and Tiffani Brooker with a strike rate of 22.7 per cent wins and 58.8 per cent places.

The 25-year-old said he exceeded his own season expectations and hoped to further improve in the following months.

“I haven't really set too many goals but I want to win again,” he said.

“I want to win another metro premiership, hopefully the Sunshine Coast as well and it would be really awesome to go interstate a bit.

“We’ll wait and see if there’s a horse good enough here that can take that next step but if I can get on one and have a few rides in Sydney or Melbourne that’d be great.”

Orman – who as of Tuesday, September 13, 2022 had 898 career wins - said he wanted to join elite company by hitting 1000 winners by the end of next season.

“It definitely is exciting, I knew I’d be close which is awesome and hopefully I can tick that off very soon before striving for 1000 by the end of next season,” he said.

Orman’s parents were also in the racing game with his mother Caroline Allardyce a trainer and his father a jockey for a few years.

The father-of-two was also hoping of grabbing his maiden Group 1 victory after going close numerous times over the years.

He said his career trajectory in the saddle looked bright.

“Yeah it is or well I hope so,” he said with a laugh.

“Hopefully I can just keep getting better I suppose, it would be awesome to go overseas one day but whether that happens or not is another thing.

“I’ve obviously just got to keep getting better, which is what I’ve been doing each year.”
