Sunshine Coast rising MMA talent David Martinez is hoping to continue his hot run of form in the octagon as he contests the Eternal Lightweight Championship in Perth on August 18.
Martinez, otherwise known as ‘The Smiling Assassin’, will take on fellow Australian talent Harry ‘The Human Highlight Reel’ Webb from HBF Stadium.
The 31-year-old, who fights out of Ignite MMA in Caloundra under head coach Ryan Dunstan, is already a two time Eternal Lightweight Champion.
Martinez said he was excited by the opportunity to extend his 12-win, six loss record.
“For me it’s just another fight but it is a momentous occasion to be fighting on UFC weekend and going for my third title,” he said.
“Harry has recently signed with Eternal after being with Hex and he’s had an undefeated amateur and professional career so far.
“To call yourself a three-time champion, it definitely has a nice ring to it.”
Webb is 4-0 in his professional career after a 7-0 amateur run.
“He seems like a good guy and a well rounded fighter,” Martinez said.
“I would lean towards my grappling being superior but Harry can definitely hold his own in that area and he has good power in his hands.
“I think it will be an interesting fight so I’m excited to see how it all plays out.”
Head coach Ryan Dunstan said he was eager for the coming days.
“Camp has been perfect as David is in the best shape he’s ever been in and the plan we’ve assembled is air tight,” he said.
“Harry is the new kid on the block, he’s touted as a UFC hopeful and he’s a good fighter but David brings plenty of experience and will put him to the test this weekend.”
