Coastal Marlins head coaches have revealed who the standout players were for their team after winning the inaugural BPL competition. SEE THE FULL LIST

The Coastal Marlins cricket team have come away with silverware in the club’s first ever Brisbane Premier League Competition.

The Marlins under 15 boys and under 19 women's teams were able to be crowned champions after all five junior teams progressed through to the finals.

We caught up with head coaches Gerard Flegler and Tony Dudgeon to find out which players from their team were the key to tournament success.

Under 15 Boys (Gerard Flegler)

“It was great week after going in not really knowing what to expect,” he said.

“On Monday morning we said the team that comes together the best will probably take out this competition and I was lucky enough to have a great group of kids.

“We had kids from Noosa to Bundaberg and right down to the Gold Coast and we all just enjoyed each other's company for the duration of the tournament.”

Flegler said he was proud of how the team conducted themselves.

“We tried to challenge ourselves as a team each match and felt as though we played a really exciting brand of cricket,” he said.

“The whole tournament was great and a massive shout-out to the owners of the Marlins by they way they looked after the whole group.”

Flegler said the end result was a credit to the boys performances.

“We worked really well as a team and I remember one of the boys saying to me before the final that we didn't have anyone in the top run scorers,” he said.

“In terms of key players though Christian Alexander came away with 15 wickets for the carnival and was absolutely outstanding both on and off the field.

“He is a great kid and looks to be a good cricketer as well.

“Jacob Cibulka was another who ended up having a bumper tournament in the end and plays a similar style to Max Bryant of the Brisbane Heat.

“He goes really hard and very similar to Cruz Baker who had a strong tournament as well.”

Under 19 women's (Tony Dudgeon)

“I saw the win as a bonus as the main thing was that the girls all had a great time and the whole environment was an enjoyable one for them to be apart of,” he said.

“It was a good fun concept and I thought the standard in terms of skill was very high.

“I’d say it was equal to the Brisbane Premier Cricket and some things may have even been above that level so it was a great way for the girls to improve their game.”

Charlotte Lutz proved to be one of the better performing players in the under 19 women's team.

Dudgeon said he was impressed by a number of players in his team.

“Lucy Hamilton is an obvious choice for me as she always steps up in the big games in a calm manner with both bat and ball,” he said.

“She’s got all the skills covered in terms of off field stuff as well so she’s shooting for the stars I think.

“Charlotte Lutz is another who had a great tournament with batt, ball and in the field.

“She was solid and very bubbly on and off the field so she was great.”

Dudgeon said that it was a good tournament for players to really test their skills against the state's best players.

“Rebecca Kuiters was another for me who stood out all around,” he said.

“She probably was one of the edge players that came forward as one of our better performing players which was great.

“Ryleigh Wotherspoon with the gloves was top-tier and she scored the most runs for us as well.

“Her work wicketkeeping was a step above anything else I saw the entire tournament and take away the likes of Beth Mooney I think Ryleigh would be right as one of the best in the state.”
