Cassidy primed to fire for Godolphin again

HE was on Winx in the 2015 Sunshine Coast Guineas, the first of her 29 straight wins, where he labelled her potentially the best horse he had ridden.

RACING: Larry Cassidy's unblemished record for James Cummings and Godolphin goes on the line with Gaulois in today's Sunshine Coast Cup, as the multiple premiership winner continues to revel in his role as a Gun for Hire.

Since Cummings joined Team Godolphin, Cassidy has won on Epidemic at Caloundra last June and Manicure last month - both stakes races - in his only two rides for the stable.

"I'm definitely happy to take them,” Cassidy said.

"It would have been nice to stay on (Manicure in the Magic Millions), but that's probably never going to be the case and you're happy to fill in.

"Coming up to the carnival when there will still be races in Sydney and you can fill in, it's certainly great to be able to put the Blue colours on.”

Cassidy's most famous fill-in role was on Winx in the 2015 Sunshine Coast Guineas, the first of her sequence of 29 straight wins, where he labelled her potentially the best horse he had ridden.

"You get reminded of it all the time. It's something that can never be taken away and I will always remember,” he said.

"I was never going to make a call that she would be the champion horse of the world and never be beaten again, but I knew she was something.”

Cummings has opted to put blinkers on Gaulois for the first time today as he comes back from his unplaced run as beaten favourite in the Bernborough (1600m) to today's 1400m.

"He's a nice ride for sure,” Cassidy said.

"(The Bernborough) was a funny race. They were very bunched and there were a few that didn't have a lot of luck. This is a similar sort of race to what it was at Doomben and the roomier track looks ideal.”

Cassidy, who made the move to Queensland a decade ago and was a premiership winner in his early years here, has been plagued by injuries over the past six or seven years, particularly in his knees, but says his body is "surprisingly” in good shape at the moment.

"My knees are good, I'm very fit and I've been exercising a lot,” he said.

"The amount of rides are down on what I've been getting, but I had three winners last week and I'm riding winners, so that's all you can do.”
