Caloundra SHS teacher Andrew Gercken said it would be a great contest for all teams competing across the two days.

“There are a number of really talented rugby league players in our teams,” he said.

The competition which features top schools from surrounding areas such as Ipswich, Logan, Toowoomba and Brisbane is one of the top rugby league programs in the state.

Mr Gercken said he couldn't be prouder of how the school has progressed in the competition over the past few seasons.

“Given we’re up against some really strong schools and some elite teams it’s been great for us as a school to be able to show what we can do,” he said.

“We wanted to be the best school on the Sunshine Coast and we ticked that box so now we’re wanting to be the best team in our competition.”

Caloundra SHS are the only team from the Sunshine Coast to have qualified for the finals series.

Mr Gercken said it had been an eventful season.

“Our players have been so impressive throughout the year both on and off the field,” he said.

“The disruptions of Covid-19, the late game changes and the extensive travel has been tough but it’s a credit to each and every one of our players.”
