Bowditch makes cut at Masters

PEREGIAN Beach’s Steven Bowditch performed when it mattered most to make the cut at the Australian Masters yesterday.

Bowditch needed to wipe two strokes off his round going into the final two holes at Victoria Golf Club and he managed to do that.

Bowditch birdied the par-five 17th, at which he carded 10 in the first round, before backing it up with a one-metre birdie putt on the par-five 18th.

He had a five-metre eagle opportunity but left it short.

In contrast, former Sunshine Coast professional Andrew Bonhomme faded badly on the final holes to miss the cut.

Bonhomme double-bogeyed the par-three 16th and made a birdie on the following hole but his par on the 18th wasn’t enough as he finished at five-over.

Buderim’s Marcus Cain carded four-over yesterday to also miss the cut after finishing at five-over-par.

Meanwhile, Adam Scott, who is bound for the Australian PGA Championships at Coolum next month, holds a four-stroke lead after two rounds of the Singapore Open.

Scott carded a second round of seven-under to be 13-under for the European Tour tournament.

Mt Coolum’s Tony Carolan was also in good form at the Singapore Open.

Carolan fired a five-under-par first round to share 11th place.

Sunrise Beach’s Katherine Hull is in a prime position after the first round of the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in Mexico.

Hull carded four-under in the opening round to sit in a tie for third.

She is four shots behind leader Cristie Kerr and one stroke behind Stacy Lewis, who is second.

The only blemish in Hull’s round was a bogey on the par-three eighth hole at the Guadalajara Country Club.
