CRICKET: Caloundra Cricket Club has received praise from the sport's governing body in Australia, for its impressive indoor facility.
The club received the Community Facility Project of the Year award for its Sunshine Coast Elite Training Centre, opened in September.
Andrew Ingleton, Executive General Manager Game and Market Development at Cricket Australia, said the club was a "very worthy” recipient of the national accolade.
"The sheer number of people that this facility will impact through it's five wicket nets, four grass wickets, a spin wicket and dividing nets that open up to be a multi-purpose training facility is something they should be very proud of,” he said.
"I am sure it will service the Sunshine Coast's growing population for many years to come.”
Club stalwart and manager Mick Davis accepted the gong at the inaugural A Sport for All Community Cricket Awards at the MCG.
The event honoured the remarkable work being done within the Australian cricket community by individuals, clubs and associations.
Hundreds of nominations were received from all over Australia with the two finalists in each of the 12 categories flown to Melbourne to attend the dinner.
Winners received a certificate, a $200 gift voucher and a signed cricket bat.
Caloundra Cricket Club was the only Queensland-based entity to claim an award.
