CRICKET: After years in the state first grade, Preston White has relished playing with Caboolture in the Sunshine Coast division one competition.
The 28-year-old all-rounder starred for the Snakes during their grand final victory against Tewantin Noosa at Buderim, claiming a bag of wickets and a century.
"The ball was coming out pretty well and it was swinging around and when I was batting everything was coming off so I'm pretty happy," he said.
"I'm a bit disappointed I didn't get a few more (runs) but going into the game if they said I was going to get 112 I'd be pretty happy with that, so I'm stoked."
White claimed 3/37 and 3/33 either side of his century, during an eight-wicket first innings win.
A Rockhampton product, he linked with top Brisbane club Toombul as a teenager and played there for almost a decade.
There were times where he was selected for Queensland's second XI.
"But I didn't quite kick on with it," he said. "I probably didn't take it as serious as I should have.
"I probably could have gone a bit further but I'm happy just playing for a bit of fun now."
He decided last year would be his last at Toombul in state grade.
Snakes captain Glen Batticciotto, who had played with him at Toombul previously, asked him if he wanted to join him at Caboolture, mainly "for fun".
"I said 'yes' and haven't looked back since," White said. "It (winning the premiership) feels pretty good. I'm very proud of the boys and our season.
"We have a good culture at the club. We train hard and everyone gets along. We always have a lot of fun as well."
Some niggling injuries during the first half of the season hampered his progress but White enjoyed a strong second half of the campaign.
He can bowl left-arm pace with the new ball or can bowl later with left-arm orthodox spin.
Batticciotto said White had been a welcome addition to the club.
"He was pretty much done with cricket when I pretty much convinced him to come over (to the Snakes) and enjoy his cricket again," he said. "He's just back enjoying the game and backing himself, which is half the battle sometimes."
White is unsure what he will do next season.
"No idea. I'll just take it as it comes," he said.
