Coast young gun Charlie Bowes is playing some of his best footy after graduating from Noosa’s AFL fields to the elite Brisbane Lions environment.
Bowes, who is a former Noosa Tiger, has been selected to represent Queensland in the U19 NAB AFL Championships next month.
The 19-year-old moved to Brisbane earlier this year and has been playing for the Lions in the VFL competition as a member of their academy.
Bowes, who is currently playing as a half back, said the transition from the Coast to Brisbane had been great.
“It obviously a very high intense environment and I’ve adapted really well by having some really good people around me,” he said.
“Being able to learn from the best and to be playing with a fair chunk of those senior Brisbane Lions players has been really positive.
“The support of my family and my mates has been really helpful both on and off the field.”
Bowes said he enjoyed the opportunity to learn from the club’s top players.
“The entire Lions organisation holds such a great atmosphere and Harris Andrews in particular has been really good at showing me the ropes and helping me improve my game,” he said.
“It’s always been a dream of mine to play AFL at the top level and having a fair few players in the Lions squad that originated from the Sunshine Coast has been really cool.”
Bowes said he hoped to continue his good form and was looking to be listed to an AFL club sometime this year.
“I’m loving the whole experience and I know within myself I’m continuing to grow and better my game each week,” he said.
“My main goal is to keep working hard and to have my name to an AFL club in the near future.”
