Southern Drive crash leaves pedestrian with serious leg injuries

A police investigation is underway after two men were rushed to hospital following a car and e-scooter crash near a major Sunshine Coast Shopping Centre on Thursday.

An investigation is underway after a 27-year-old man, who was travelling on an e-scooter, was rushed to hospital after he was struck by a car near a major Sunshine Coast Shopping Centre.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Southern Drive, Maroochydore at 1.07pm on Thursday, January 19 to reports a pedestrian had been hit by a car.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesman said the man was transported to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition with significant leg injuries.

He said Critical Care paramedics were on-board at the time of the incident to “keep the bleeding under control”.

The driver of the car, a 62-year-old man, was also taken to hospital in a stable condition with minor injuries.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said the forensic crash unit was conducting an investigation and anyone with relevant CCTV or dashcam footage, or anyone with relevant information should come forward.

It comes after two teenagers were flown to hospital with critical injuries after they were struck by a car while riding a scooter at Alexandra Headland on January 3.
