Soak up the rays before the mercury drops

Get out on the water or soak up some sun, because this weekend’s pleasant weather on the Sunshine Coast is not expected to hang around.

GET out on the water or soak up some sun, because this weekend’s pleasant weather on the Sunshine Coast is not expected to hang around.

By Wednesday, Bureau of Meteorology forecasters predict the mercury to drop.

Forecaster Peter Markworth said conditions should be good for getting out on the water.

Weekend temperatures will range from 14C to maximums of 23C, which are “pleasant” for May.

“They will be good for the next couple of days,” Mr Markworth said.

“Today there is potential for onshore showers — a good chance. But there won’t be much rainfall in them.

“That will ease tomorrow and showers will stay offshore.

“Until Tuesday, there are only small chances of showers and a storm maybe on Tuesday night.”

Mr Markworth said a wind change with cool, dry air behind a trough was expected on Wednesday with minimum temperatures of 9C or colder.

Unfortunately for the region’s surfers, last week’s ripper swell has diminished, with fairly flat conditions on the horizon.
