More Sunshine Coast families will have access to more childcare in the near future, with more than 800 new spots set to open in six planned childcare centres.

Multiple developers have submitted applications for centres in Mudjimba, Bokarina, Palmview, Yandina, Moffat Beach, Moffat Beach, Palmview, and Aura.

Joy Early Learning (Moffat Beach and Aura)

Joy Early Learning will open two daycare centres on the Sunshine Coast in 2026.

Moffat Beach and Aura will be the home to two centres which will offer “an organic, community-driven approach”.

Marketing and communications manager Hannah Beadley said the centre prioritised outdoor play “unlike other centres that lean heavily on structured academics”.

“The outdoors is the ultimate classroom. Children run, climb, dig, garden and explore — connecting with nature and discovering new ways to learn through movement and adventure,” she said.

They will care for children aged eight weeks to six years with a focus on outdoor play.

Both centres will open in 2026.

Bokarina

The Sunshine Coast Council approved an application for a two-storey daycare centre, initially designed for 76 children.

A new submission proposes a design that will accommodate 104 children on the 1604 sqm site.

The ground floor will include two activity rooms for children under two, sleep areas, a staffroom, and other amenities.

The first floor will include four activity rooms for older children up to five years old, a deck, and other facilities.

Palmview

A major daycare centre is proposed for Palmview, capable of caring for up to 250 children.

The development would be located on a 142-hectare site owned by the applicant, LCA Palmview Pty Ltd, opposite the Palmview education precinct.

Marlowe Architecture plans show 15 activity rooms, three outdoor areas, and other amenities.

The floor area will total 2079 sqm, and the outdoor space will comprise 1751 sqm.

The new proposal is currently being assessed.

Yandina

The Yandina Shopping Centre, anchored by an IGA Supermarket, will include the childcare centre.

A 112-place daycare is proposed for 3-7 Old Gympie Rd, Yandina, next to the approved expansion of the Yandina Shopping Centre.

The plan features an 811 sqm single-storey building that will include seven activity rooms and four outdoor play areas.

The centre is proposed as part of the growing commercial precinct.

This proposal supersedes a previous proposal for a smaller centre which would have accommodated 98 children.

The new proposal is currently being assessed.

Mudjimba

Smart Boutique Early Learning has a 96-place childcare centre in the pipeline for 687-689 David Low Way, Mudjimba.

The two-storey building will span 740 sqm and feature a ground floor nursery for 12 children, while the first floor will accommodate 84 children aged two and upwards.

The centre will provide 596 sqm of outdoor area, the most extensive offering of any of the other centres.

The new proposal is currently being assessed.
