THE showdown between the Noosa Council and the high- profile owners of Makepeace Island over the future of the idyllic getaway will take place next year.
An appeal by Makepeace Island Operations against conditions imposed by the council has been scheduled for the Planning and Environment Court in the first week of March.
The exclusive island retreat in the Noosa River with the tranquil title has been the subject of hostilities over plans by Sir Richard Branson and former Virgin Blue boss Brett Godfrey to turn what had been a staff getaway into a boutique resort.
The council decreed that a maximum of 20 people only could stay on the island at any time and no amplified music or noise be audible to nearby residents from 10pm to 7am.
Makepeace Island Operations has argued that those conditions are too restrictive.
Judge John Robertson yesterday ordered the two sides to find mutually agreeable dates for the hearing.
He said they should exchange expert reports beforehand.
