A young Brisbane man whose body was found three days after he was swept away in a rip has been remembered as "a lovely soul taken too soon".

Hundreds of friends and family members have shared their memories and messages of support after the three-day search for Kyle Schroduer ended in tragedy.

The body of the popular 21-year-old Brisbane man was found north of Coolum Beach - about 300m from where he was last seen - about 2pm on Monday.

He was reportedly swimming near Stumers Creek about 4.30pm on Sunday when he was caught in a rip and suddenly disappeared.

Distraught family and friends could be seen consoling each other underneath a tent where Mr Schroduer was last seen just after authorities confirmed the tragic news the man's body had been found.

Small crowds of people littered the area nearby, seemingly unaware of the tragedy that had just unfolded as a convoy of Surf Life Saving cars and a police vehicle were leaving the scene.

The internet has been flooded with messages from people expressing their love and affection for the young man.

"You were a brother to me and we always had that family love, whenever I would see you, we would talk like we spent everyday together," one woman wrote.

Surf Life Saving Queensland Sunshine Coast regional manager Aaron Purchase confirmed on Monday afternoon crews had located a body floating about 2pm.

Mr Purchase said about 25 surf life savers used jetskis, boats, a helicopter, drones and vehicles in the search.

They had been scouring the waters and beach from 5am Monday, having done the same all day on Sunday.

He said a rip was believed to have cause the death.

"On behalf of Surf Life Saving Queensland our condolences go out to his family and friends, it's tragic at any time of the year, let alone on the eve of Easter," Mr Purchase said.

"Our thoughts go out to his family and friends."

Mr Schroduer's girlfriend Samantha Meyers, 20, on Sunday described her partner as funny man full of "one liners".

"He's so funny, he comes up with one liners," she told the Daily. "He was a natural comedian - he learnt from the best."

"He kept me and my family in stitches. He was a larrikin."

Police said a report would be prepared for the coroner.
