Round 10 of the Sunshine Coast rugby union competition is in the books with just five rounds to play until finals begin.
Both Noosa and Caloundra picked up big wins over Wynnum and Caboolture while University proved too good for Brothers at home.
The win for Caloundra means they now sit at the top of the table with 26 points but have also played two more games than third and fourth place and one more than Noosa in second.
Maroochydore will return from the week off to play Caloundra in round 11 while Caboolture host Brothers and University will play Wynnum.
See which players stood tall in round 10 as the battle for a top four spot begins to take shape.
SCRU A-GRADE RD 10 TOTW
1. Ben Blackall (Caloundra)
Started the game with firepower and aggression as he put the Caboolture defence on the back foot before being substituted for the second half.
Dominated the scrum, carried the ball well and chopped the legs out from underneath the Caboolture attack.
2. Harry O’Connor (Noosa)
It was a game for the backs in Noosa’s 78-point victory against Wynnum but O’Connor was everywhere for his side with great control at the ruck and a strong running game.
Well deserved once again as he’s strung together a few standout performances now.
3. Jacob Pinkney (University)
Just an incredible work rate on show which is simply next level for a prop forward.
He was very solid at the set piece and put on some stinging shots in defence.
4. Blake Enever (Caloundra)
Pure class as expected.
His class and IQ is a step ahead of anyone else on the park.
Enever just pipped Noosa’s Harry Wright who was very strong.
5. Noah Brogden (Brothers)
Brothers weren’t on the right side of the scoreline on Saturday but it was a proper captain’s knock from Brogden.
Played his heart out all game, making tackle after tackle and ran himself into the ground.
6. Liam Jenkins (Wynnum)
In what was a tough day at the office for the Bugs Jenkins could leave the field with his head held high.
The second rower was great in the lineouts, carried well and held his own in defence.
7. Matt Kelly (Noosa)
The try scorers always get plenty of praise but Kelly was Noosa’s best on Saturday with an impressive all around game.
His tenacity at the breakdown, pilfering, catch and pass and running game was very strong and he looked a threat every time he touched the footy.
8. Oscar Torrens (Caboolture)
The Snake’s back row has been a huge shining light this season and Torrens strung together another nice performance against Caloundra.
He bent the line with the ball and put on some big shots in defence.
9. Levi Wairau (University)
Was the Barbarians best on Saturday with plenty of energy, cleared the ruck with speed and had great accuracy to get his side moving.
Showed some great scrambling defence as well to keep his side in control.
10. Joey Caputo (Noosa)
Noosa have picked up some big wins this season and their number 10 Caputo was in fine form once again away from home.
Moved the ball well, kicked when needed, picked up a try for himself and slotted eight conversion attempts.
11. Larry Hermens (Brothers)
In his first A-grade game in many years, Hermens slotted in at inside centre for Brothers and was his side’s best attacking weapon.
Provided some great defensive play and overall experience.
12. Benji Waller (Caloundra)
Had the opposition in two minds every time Caloundra had the ball with Waller benefiting really well from Green’s running game.
He carried the ball well, showed good leg drive and scored two tries of his own.
13. Colby Mason (University)
Injected himself into the game really well, tucking and running the ball with aggression but also getting his wide players and breakaway forwards into the game.
Scored a try of his own and slotted three from four conversions.
14. Ben Walker (Noosa)
Crossed for four tries of his own in the second half during the Dolphins big victory.
His acceleration and agility through the line was lovely to watch.
15. Jayden Green (Caloundra)
Was handed the number 10 jersey in round 10 where he was extremely solid and too hard to be left out of the side.
Kept his side ticking over with the footy, ran the ball well and got his backline plenty of room to move.
Honourable Mentions: Harry Wright (Noosa), Sam Hoffman (Caboolture), Shaun Fletcher (Caboolture), Josh Dunkley (Caboolture), Olly Willis (University), Josh Mostert (University), Bryce Edwards (Wynnum) and Patrick Sullivan (Wynnum).
