Sunshine Coast students, parents, educators, workers and families will come together on Friday to voice a clear climate message to the federal government.

School Strike 4 Climate is set to take over the Maroochydore Rotary Park at Cotton Tree from midday until 2pm with a message of "fund our future not gas".

The Sunshine Coast event is one of dozens of School Strike 4 Climate actions across the country and is supported by Australian Parents for Climate Action.

Climate action spokeswoman Yolanda Dasgupta said the group was striking to send a clear and powerful message to the federal government.

"We are striking to tell the Morrison government that if they care about the future of kids in this country, they must stop funding and supporting gas," Ms Dasgupta said.

"Gas is fuelling the climate crisis, devastating our land and water and wrecking our health.

Ms Dasgupta said the government and community had the chance to create a "sustainable recovery" in the post-COVID world but anything less would be "short sighted or negligent".

The event includes guest speakers including Beyond Zero Emissions co-founder Adrian Whitehead, Noosa Shire councillor Brian Stockwell and student Logan Costa who is a member of the Australian Youth Climate Coalition.

Mr Stockwell said politicians had been "asleep at the wheel" for the past 50 years when addressing the climate issues.

"Since the 70s we've known fossil fuel pollution causes global warming," Mr Stockwell said.

"If we want a better future for our youth, we have to listen to their demands for a cleaner future."
