Embracing a more “unselfish role” hasn’t hampered the potent attack of a Maroochydore star as his efforts continue to shine among the competition’s best.
Roos talent Mitchell Scholard has booted a stellar 37 goals in 10 games to sit second on the QAFL’s scoring list as the competition enters the second half of the 20-round season.
He’s placed behind Broadbeach’s Jordan Moncrieff who has nailed 44 so far this year.
Aaron Wilson is the Coast’s next best, with the Noosa Tiger snaring the sixth most goals with 20 in nine games.
While Scholard is unsure he’ll reach the heights of his 100 goal haul in 2018, he’s more than pleased to share the load this season.
“I feel like I’m going OK and kicking goals in some games and in others I’m a little bit quiet,” he said.
“I’m trying to play a more unselfish role and bring others into the game.
“There are more forwards on board this year and we have a spread of goal kickers and good it’s not just me every single game.
“I’ve tried to play up the ground a bit more and get a few more touches on the wing and come back to goal and instead of being one dimensional and coming out of goal square.”
The Roos entered the top flight of the QAFL last year and after finishing fifth made the opening round of finals.
Noosa has made the step up this season to join them.
The Fisherman’s Road outfit currently sit fourth on the 11-team ladder with eight rounds left.
“It probably took us a fair bit of last year to find our feet moving up a level and now we feel we belong and are not just there to make up numbers but we’re there to have a crack and beat top teams,” he said.
Noosa sit last in the QAFL mid way through their season and Caloundra Panthers sit first in the second tier Division 1 Hart Cup.
Meanwhile, Maroochydore’s women finished their season in third and won their minor semi final over the weekend against Coorparoo 6.4 (40) to 4.3 (27) to enter the preliminary final against Bond University this weekend for a shot at the QAFLW grand final.
