After running two successful restaurants in Noosa’s tourist hub, two hospitality veterans have branched out to fill a roast-sized hole in the market for locals.

Roast and Gravy Co owners Gabe Klagsbrun and Nick Haddleton recently opened their Tewantin restaurant to offer traditional European and Australian roasted goodies.

Mr Klagsbrun, who previously ran Noshit on Thomas Street and Nosh Express on Hasting Street, said the pair made the decision to start their new venture for Sunshine Coast locals.

“We basically decided we didn't really want to continue with the trade on the tourist strip there,” he said.

“We wanted to do something for the locals and something that we could expand across the Coast.”

Mr Klagsbrun said the new venture aimed to fill a gap in the market for good-quality roasts that could be shared with family.

“After sharing many roast meals together … we thought we would fill a gap in the market and do something together that no one else is doing,” he said.

“It brings people together. Everyone has been so isolated and there is not really venues and avenues for people to get back to something that is comforting and traditional and that experience that some older people have had going back years with our families,” he said.

From roast meats, vegies, salads and sandwiches to desserts, the licensed venue will offer the “whole hog”, including takeaway.

Mr Klagsbrun said it had been a “crazy ride” since opening the restaurant.

“We’ve had amazing feedback, amazing positivity and an awesome response. I’m super happy with how it’s going in terms of customer perception,” he said.

“It’s like a rocket ship at the moment, we are trying to get it under control. Our first Saturday night we ran out of food at 6.30pm. That’s something that has never happened to me in all my years of experience.”

He said he and Mr Haddleton had dreams of expanding the restaurant.

“I would like to see it expand significantly,” he said.

“I already had customers from Victoria leave me a note saying they want to be the first franchise, so we must be doing something right.”

Before moving to Noosa 15 years ago Mr Klagsbrun owned several eateries across Sydney, including his first Charcoal Charlie’s which he opened in 1994.

Mr Haddleton was the head chef at both Noshit and Nosh Express as well as the Noosa Surf Life Saving Club and Noosa RSL.

Located on Hilton Terrace in Tewantin, Roast and Gravy Co will be open from 10am to 8pm most days.
