An independent private school on the Sunshine Coast has revealed plans for a major expansion, with a new health and fitness precinct set to boost learning opportunities.
To meet the growing needs of students and staff, Pacific Lutheran College hopes to significantly expand and enhance its campus, from sports facilities and classrooms, to carparks and administrative offices.
The development application submitted to Sunshine Coast Council outlines a two-stage plan to construct a new, two-storey health and fitness precinct on the Meridan Plains campus.
Stage One will focus on the initial construction and establishment of the new precinct with some temporary solutions, while Stage Two will work to transform both storeys of the building into permanent, functional facilities for students and staff.
When the project is complete, the school will have the facilities and capacity to support, educate and challenge more than 1,000 children from K-12.
The new health and fitness precinct will include upgraded learning areas and classrooms, a new gymnasium, a kiosk, additional staff facilities, new bathrooms, and a lift to ensure the building is accessible.
Additionally, upgrades will provide new landscaping treatments for outdoor areas, plenty of shade trees to protect students from the sun and an upgraded stormwater management system.
Pacific Lutheran College anticipates significant growth in the coming years, with student and staff numbers forecast to reach 1,350 and 142, respectively, by 2027.
As a result, the school’s application also includes plans for a carpark expansion.
An additional 10 parking spaces will be added to the existing carpark, increasing the total parking bays to 186, which exceeds the required 178 spaces needed for the predicted 2027 student and staff numbers.
The project has been deemed compliant with relevant state and local planning provisions by Sunshine Coast Council, but an exact timeline for the development’s completion is yet to be announced.
