THE Somerset and Ipswich regions have been revealed as the population powerhouses of south-east Queensland.
The neighbouring council areas experienced the highest population growth rate in the south-east and some of the highest in the state, according to a report from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
According to the Regional Population Growth, Australia, 2010-11, measuring growth across the nation from June 2010 to June 30, 2011, the Somerset region was the third fastest growing local government area in the state with 2.94% growth, with Ipswich only marginally behind with 2.93%.
