Beefy’s has acted swiftly after a man claimed he found a dead rat in a wrap he purchased at one of the popular franchise’s Sunshine Coast outlets.

A man claimed he had purchased a pie and wrap from Beefy’s at Aussie World, Palmview, when he allegedly found an unexpected ingredient in the wrap.

“I ordered a pie as well but didn’t feel like eating it once I found that lil (sic) fella,” he said, accompanied by an image of a rat alongside his wrap.

The post amassed more than 1000 comments from concerned Beefy’s fans, including one comment which read “that’s just ruined my most favourite pie”.

A spokeswoman for Beefy’s said the company had moved quickly after the alleged rat find.

“We have taken a number of immediate steps since this issue was bought to our attention. All ingredients for the wrap have been withdrawn from all Beefy’s locations as a precaution. We have also been in contact with the customer,” the spokeswoman said.

“Beefy’s takes considerable care with the preparation and sourcing of all our food ingredients. As such this incident is being investigated fully. We are reviewing CCTV footage.

“We note that the original post on Facebook has now been removed.”

The alleged find came within 24 hours of another man who claimed he found a rat in a salad bag he purchased from a grocery store on the Sunshine Coast.

The second man posted images of the salad bag as well as the dead rodent to a Sunshine Coast community page, stating he had been eating out of the packet for four-five days before discovering the “little fella at the very bottom”.

“I’m not blaming the shop of course because it has nothing to do with them but probably doesn’t hurt to double check the bag beforehand,” he wrote.
