Rising Queensland trainer James Moore is beginning to find his feet on the Sunshine Coast, securing back-to-back winners despite his small stable size.

The 32-year-old, who is the son of eight-time Macau champion trainer Gary Moore, relocated to Caloundra in March this year to relaunch his racing career after being disqualified for two years in 2018.

With just eight horses in the stable, Moore grabbed his first win of the season on October 27, thanks to a blistering ride from Micheal Hellyer aboard Silly Salmon who was paying 100-1 with some betting agencies.

The following day Moore grabbed a second win when Ryan Wiggins rode Paballo to victory on the Gold Coast poly track.

“I couldn’t be happier at the moment,” he said.

“When I had those two winners I only had three runners in work so that was a pretty big confidence boost.

“Silly Salmon was able to win in my grandfather’s colours which was special and it was at headquarters as well at Caloundra.

“Then the other one was for Equi-Com Syndications who have been great to me with their support and trust.”

This season Moore has recorded two winners and one placing from seven starts.

He recently transitioned into eight on-course boxes at Corbould Park and had aims of further expanding his stable within the next year.

“Hopefully by this time next season, after the yearling sales, I want to have around 30 or 35 horses and then just go from there,” he said.

“I’ve got some really nice babies that are coming through, one is an Extravagant colt and one is a Spirit Of Boom gelding who are both unnamed but go quite well.

“There’s about eight of them that are younger stock so that’s quite exciting.”

He said he was thankful for the position he was in.

“I’m really happy with how everything is tracking at the moment, it’s all come a lot quicker than I expected but that’s thanks to the support I’ve had around me and all of the hard work behind the scenes,” he said.

“It’s been great timing for myself with how the club is progressing both on and off the track and the facilities and the service on offer is second to none so it’s great to be here at the moment.”
