QJC U13 boy’s Southern Champions on the Sunshine Coast

The pool games have concluded after day three of the coveted QJC U13 Southern Champions on the Sunshine Coast. Discover which sides are in line for State glory and our team of the tournament so far.

A State title is on the line, with the Queensland Junior Cricket U13 boy’s Southern Championships, scheduled to be played from December 11-15, across the Sunshine Coast.

Seven teams have descended on the region consisting of Metropolitan South West (MSW), Gold Coast, Darling Downs and South West Queensland (DDSWQ), Brisbane North, South East Queensland (SEQ), BEARS, Wide Bay and hosts Sunshine Coast.

The teams have been split into two pools of four, playing three round games before the finals begin on Thursday and conclude on Friday.

Pool Stage Wrap (11th-13th)

The top teams will battle it out for a place in the finals on Thursday after all three pool games concluded on Wednesday afternoon.

Brisbane North are the only side to have gone undefeated in there pool games while Sunshine Coast finished at the top of Pool A with two wins and one loss.

Second placed teams MSW and the BEARS will also contest for their spot in the grand final after also finishing with two wins and one loss.

The remaining four teams Gold Coast, DDSWQ, SEQ and Wide Bay will also play finals matches on Thursday and Friday, battling it out for fifth spot.

Team of the Tournament (From the pool games)

1. Adam Johansen (Brisbane North)

Johansen has been the standout batsman from the opening matches, finishing with the highest runs scored in 207.

He’s produced scores of 84* from 99, 22 from 34 and 101* from 118.

He’s also hit 25 fours in his three innings.

2. Max Dodunski (Sunshine Coast)

Dodunski smacked 101* from 130 in his first match, followed that performance up with an 84 from 103 and finished with 19 from 34.

He ranks just three runs shy of Johansen’s total runs scored.

3 and 4. Calem McCathie and Smit Shrimali (MSW)

Batting at number two and three for their side, McCathie and Shrimali have shared extremely similar scores in their first three matches.

The duo both hit centuries in their first match before retiring not out, following those performances up with 33 from 72 (Shrimali) and 35 from 48 (McCathie) in their second match.

Against Gold Coast, despite the loss they again established a good partnership with Shrimali hitting 64 from 93 and McCathie finishing 53 from 65.

5. Daniel MacDonald, Wicketkeeper (Gold Coast)

MacDonald has cruised along in his opening three matches hitting a total 178 runs from 161 balls.

The Gold Coast vice-captain has been swinging for the hills in all three innings producing scores of 55 from 43, 51 from 53 and 72 from 65.

He’s also hit the second most fours (28), one behind Smit Shrimali.

6. Abhay Dhaliwal (Brisbane North)

The Brisbane North captain has hit lovely scores of 64 from 68, 100* from 104 and then 12 from 17.

He’s hit 20 fours in his three innings and has been a key reason for Brisbane North’s solid form in the first three matches.

With the ball Dhaliwal has figures of 5-49 from his 16 overs.

7. Josh Brooke (Sunshine Coast)

Brooke also started his opening match with a bang, establishing a great partnership with Dodunski and he finished with 93 from 114.

The Sunshine Coast opener then hit 34 from 74 but failed to fire in his third innings.

8. Josh Allen (Sunshine Coast)

Allen has been the standout bowler of the competition so far, recording seven wickets, two maidens and just 72 runs from 16.3 overs.

He made himself known in the first match when he finished with his best competition figures of 3-33 from 6.

9. Aiden Peall (SEQ)

Peall’s standout performance in the opening matches helped him prove himself as a player to watch after finishing with figures of 4-40 from 10 overs.

So far this tournament he’s picked up seven wickets, two maidens and 124 runs from his 27 overs.

10. Arjun Dhanda (BEARS)

The rising bowler was in electric form on Wednesday, finishing with the competition's best figures so far.

The BEARS bowler had 5-27 from his 10 overs, taking his overall figures to 6-93 from 25 overs.

11. Marcus Strelow (Brisbane North)

A wild performance on day three has catapulted Strelow into this team.

The Brisbane North youngster has only bowled a total of 16 overs from his first three matches but a handy 4-2 is why he makes our side.

His total figures stand at 5-61.
