Sunshine Coast unit market: Buyers create ‘mega apartments’ at Nature by Cube complex

Interstate high-rollers are spending big money to secure entire floors of a new Maroochydore complex to create six-bedroom ‘mega apartments’.

Sunshine Coast mansion breaks Queensland record, sells for $34 million

Millionaires chasing an inner-city lifestyle on the Sunshine Coast are buying whole floors of a new Maroochydore unit complex to create “mega apartments”.

Cube Development’s luxury eight-storey Nature by Cube at Maroochydore is 75 per cent sold out but apartment numbers have declined so floor plans could double.

Director Scott Juniper said buyers were amalgamating entire levels of the 49 The Esplanade complex to create six bedroom mega-apartments.

The Cotton Tree complex was initially planned to have 13 units however that number is declining as the project experiences the trend known as “right sizing”.

Mr Juniper said they received a spike in requests to have lower apartments mirror the penthouse’s 475 sqm floor plan.

He said that buyers moving to the area wanted to maintain “inner-city luxuries alongside a post-Covid lifestyle shift”.

“Buyers are seeking to achieve the best of both worlds – the open-air and relaxed lifestyle that the Sunshine Coast offers, coupled with a high-end home that is on par with their Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne residence,” Mr Juniper said.

“We’re meeting the need with a flexible design and build model that is culminating in homes that are far from cookie cutter and truly bespoke; we’re creating something that you’ve never seen before.”

But flexible designs come at a price with the penthouse selling for close to $7m – the highest sale in Cube’s portfolio.

Sales for the project to date total $32m since development approval was granted in August.

Three apartments remain with prices starting from $2.95m.

Director at architect firm Cottee Parker Sandra Browne said the expansive design of the penthouse was designed to retain waterfront views across the master bedroom and communal living spaces.

More than 75% of Nature by Cube apartments have sold since August.

“This is the largest penthouse that we’ve been part of creating in the area, and is within the top of Cottee Parker’s national portfolio in terms of its sheer size,” Ms Browne said.

“We have certainly taken advantage of this to capture the views – which are nothing short of spectacular, and maximise the frontage over the water.”
