SILENCE was just the beginning

Conditional buyers waited in the wings for their chance

CLEAN pastures, not too steep but with a nice gentle roll to it, 340 Pomona Kin Kin Rd, Pinbarren, drew a crowd.

"Conditional buyers joined auction ready bidders," said Peter Flint of Elders Real Estate Maleny Hinterland.

Part of a deceased estate, the 16.99ha rural property comprises a three-bedroom low-set brick house, two dams, quality fencing and a panoramic view of Mt Pinbarren.

But it was silence that met the auctioneer's request for an opening bid. In need of a start, a vendor's bid of $700,000 was just the beginning.

As competitive bidding ensued, the hopes of conditional buyers were soon dashed. Bidding continued north of the reserve to a sale under the hammer.

"Caloundra buyers secured the property for $910,000," reported Peter. "They want the land for horses and will also add cabins. With that in mind they perceived better value in the property than the under-bidders."
