More units for sought-after suburb dominated by students

Prominent Coast developer Mal Pratt is part of a team hoping to build a multistorey unit block in a suburb popular with university students.

Prominent Coast developer Mal Pratt is part of a team hoping to build a multistorey unit block in a suburb popular with university students.

A company directed by Mr Pratt as well as Konstantinos Dimitrios Spilios and Leanne Jones is has applied to develop The Haven Apartments on Central Dr at Sippy Downs.

It will feature 37 units across four storeys.

One unit will be positioned on the ground floor with the 62-space car park.

Specialty accommodation pitched for growing suburb

The Mooloolaba-based company lodged the application to Sunshine Coast Council.

“The size, scale and density of the units are appropriate in relation to the upcoming high-density residential area,” a planning report stated.

The site is next to Chancellor Park Golf Driving Range and near the Coles shopping village, Sienna Catholic College, Chancellor State College and the University of the Sunshine Coast.

Unit types include a mix of two and three-bedroom apartments, with one style comprising a three-bedroom dual-key apartment.

“The proposed development will provide convenient and central accommodation for the Sippy Downs area, in close proximity to demand for unit living generated by the University of the Sunshine Coast campus and other commercial/community land uses,” the planning report added.

The two lots either side are also owned by Mr Pratt’s company.

Another development application is awaiting a decision over lots 2, 3 and 4 on Sedge St and Central Dr for 36 residential units.

That application was made by Sippy Downs JV Projects in July.
