FRESH off a major facelift being approved for Caloundra and more changes are headed to the southern Sunshine Coast city, with a 35-unit beachside development given the green light.

Two homes on Saltair St, Kings Beach, are set to make way for a six-storey unit complex only a 600m walking distance north of Kings Beach and the Esplanade.

Car parking will be provided on the lower levels, with four ground-floor units proposed.

Levels 1-4 will contain seven units each, made up of five, two-bedroom units and three, three-bedroom units.

The top floor, level five, will be made up of three, three-bedroom penthouse apartments.

All 35 units are ensuited with living areas "opening onto sizeable balconies" according to planning documents submitted, which Sunshine Coast Council approved last week.

The total site is 1523sq m, with a proposed site cover of the development of 55% (847sq m).

Secure parking is proposed to be provided, as well as 24-hour visitor parking.

Minimum requirements for the development were for 35 resident car parks, 8.75 visitor parks, 3.5 motorcycle/scooter spaces, 35 resident cycle spaces and 8.75 visitor cycle spaces.

The developers, Rise Projects, have proposed to deliver 68 resident car spaces, nine visitor car parks and 35 cycle spaces, with a pool also proposed for the Saltair St frontage.

The approval for the project comes as the council recently endorsed the Caloundra Centre Master Plan, which looks to reshape the CBD and improve connectivity to the beaches.
