Popular Coast clothing shop closes, replaced by playground

A WELL-known Coast surf shop has closed down, leaving some customers with outstanding gift vouchers.

Pipeline Surf Co at Stockland Caloundra has closed its doors, with the store closing about three weeks ago.

The Daily understands the store had changed hands just over a year ago, prior to it closing down.

The closure caught some by surprise, with Neryl Peterson taking to Facebook to try and find out what happened.

"Can anyone tell me where Pipeline surf shop in Stockland Caloundra has moved to?" she asked a community group page on June 2.

"Have a gift voucher that I would like to use and went there yesterday to see the shop has gone."

She was advised the shop was no longer, and said it was a "sad time" for the business and family involved, as well as customers who bought gift vouchers.

It's unclear the reasons for the business closure.

Stockland Caloundra centre manager Shane Monro said they were "very disappointed" to see Pipeline Surf Co close.

"We are currently experiencing high demand from retailers who are eager to open new stores at the centre and look forward to announcing a new arrival very soon," Mr Monro said.

He said the former Pipeline Surf Co tenancy had been temporarily transformed into a pop-up playground for pre-school kids, open 10am-2pm daily, manned by qualified staff who were conducting different activities each day.

"There are also tables and chairs for parents to sit, relax and enjoy a coffee while kids are playing," Mr Monro said.
