Police are investigating after a popular jewellery store was ram raided – with the thieves stealing from the local business and leaving a “huge mess” behind.
K. Smith and Son Jewellers on Bulcock St, Caloundra was ram raided just after midnight on Thursday and suffered extensive damage.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said police were investigating.
“Just after 12am, a light-coloured SUV deliberately reversed into the front of a shop on Bulcock Street, Caloundra.
“The offender fled the scene in the same vehicle.
“There was extensive damage caused to the business and an unconfirmed number of items stolen.
“Investigators are appealing for anyone who has further information or relevant vision of the Bulcock Street area between 12am and 1am on April 18 to contact police.”
The store was closed Thursday following the incident but has since reopened.
“We are lucky the thieves didn’t get away with much but have left the store in a huge mess,” the owners said on Facebook.
“Now we are waiting on the insurance assessor.
“While there is a lot to do we are happy to attend to your jewellery and watch needs as we always have.”
Investigations are ongoing.
