A young motorcycle rider has died after a crash on the Sunshine Coast with emergency services on the scene saying he was thrown a fair distance from the crash – as police continue to investigate.

Police said at 12.16am the rider of the Honda CBR 600 motorbike, travelling south, crashed on the Bruce Highway, 3km south of the Yandina exit.

The male rider died at the scene.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman confirmed they were still working to identify where the man who died was from.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said they had one crew attend the fatal crash.

The rider was travelling in the southbound lane near the Yandina Coolum Rd off ramp.

She said QPS and QAS spent some time on scene trying to locate the body – which was found thrown from the bike and found a bit further up from the bike on the median strip of the road.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said multiple paramedics attended.

“A male in his late teens was assessed with critical injuries and was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene,” she said.
