A woman who was sleeping nine floors up on an elevator shaft in a Sunshine Coast building site has been arrested and taken to hospital.

Emergency services were called to a building site on the corner of Fairway Dr and Lightning Lane at the Maroochydore CBD about 6.40am today, October 26.

Maroochydore Police Senior Constable Graham Atkinson said a 32-year-old woman was found by police nine floors up on a concrete elevator shaft.

She had been asleep, he said, but was behaving erratically and aggressively upon waking.

“She was detained and taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital,” Senior Constable Atkinson said.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokesman said firefighters assisted police at the incident.
