A 26-year-old man will stay behind bars until his next court date after he was charged with attempting to murder woman on a major Sunshine Coast road.
Thomas Neal Marriott was charged with attempted murder and dangerous operation of a vehicle while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance.
A Queensland Police spokeswoman said it would be alleged Mr Marriott was driving a car with a 21-year-old woman when he ran a red light and hit another car at 5.10pm along Caloundra Rd, Glenview on May 13.
The spokeswoman said the female passenger sustained serious injuries and Mr Marriott was taken to hospital with leg injuries.
A woman and two children, who were travelling in the other car, weren’t seriously injured.
The spokeswoman said police would allege Mr Marriott had been deliberately trying to cause harm to his female passenger at the time.
Mr Marriott did not appear when his matters were mentioned in court on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 when solicitor Ben Rynderman told the court the 26-year-old was in the process of getting legal aid.
Mr Rynderman said he understood a brief of evidence would be finished in July and asked for the matter to be adjourned.
Mr Marriott did not apply for bail.
Magistrate Rod Madsen remanded Mr Marriott in custody and adjourned his matters to July 1.
