A security guard at a popular surf club was set upon by a group of “young” people, one armed with a knife, after he intervened during a dispute in Alexandra Headland.

Alex Surf Club chief executive Ashley Robinson said the incident at the Alexandra Pde venue began about 9.20pm Sunday, March 19 when an older homeless man showed up at the club, followed by two “young males”, two “young females” and a “mother figure” who were yelling at him.

The homeless man sheltered inside the club and the venue’s security guard approached the group.

Mr Robinson said the security guard pinned one of the young males to the floor after the security guard was spat on by one of the young females and the older woman jumped on him.

He said a large kitchen knife was also taken off one of the males during the scuffle.

Club staff who were closing up rushed to assist the security guard and police were called.

Mr Robinson said the club was reaching out to staff to make sure they were okay.

“I feel for the homeless man and, b, our staff probably don’t sign on to the job to deal with stuff like this, but they have dealt with it and I’m glad everyone is safe,” he said.

“I don’t know the circumstances leading up to the incident but with our staff and what they had to endure I hope it gets sorted out.”

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman confirmed officers were called to an incident on Alexandra Parade and said two people were arrested at the scene.

She said no charges had yet been laid and investigations into the incident continued.

In another incident overnight, paramedics in Kings Beach transported a man to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition with a head injury following an alleged assault at an address on Burgess St about 7.30pm on March 19.

The police spokeswoman said an investigation continued.
