Snap Fitness Nambour: Kyle McLeod breaks in, gets naked

A Coast gym was victim to a bizarre burglary, which left behind broken and bloody toilet seats, and creeped out female members.

Your gym is rife with cocaine

A Sunshine Coast man on meth broke into a gym, stripped naked, and made himself at home for six hours, a court has heard.

During his “bizarre” overnight stay at Snap Fitness Nambour, Mooloolaba man Kyle McLeod, 30, broke several toilet seats, left others covered in blood, broke two doors, and made disturbing noises in a cubicle next a woman in another cubicle.

McLeod pleaded guilty in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Wednesday to a single charge of entering premises with intent to commit an indictable offence (wilful damage).

McLeod, a removalist by trade, gained access to the gym just after 9.30pm, by loitering in front of the gym until members exited, telling them he forgot his pass.

Once inside, he used gym equipment and the showers, but it was his actions in and around the toilet block which were of particular concern.

CCTV captured McLeod following a female gym member into the women’s toilets, trying to enter her cubicle before making himself at home in the adjacent cubicle.

A second woman entered the toilet block and the first woman expressed her concern about strange noises made by McLeod.

CCTV captured McLeod exiting the women’s toilets naked at 10.14pm and wandering the hallways before he returned to the toilet block and disappeared for more than an hour, breaking the door at some point.

He then exited, this time wearing boxer shorts, had another wander, then returned to a different toilet block and broke its door.

He exited the gym about 3am, the court heard.

Gym staff arrived at 6am to see the damage caused to the toilet block, including two damaged doors, two damaged seats and one smeared with blood.

McLeod was arrested and charged at Alexandra Headland on May 14.

He had been on parole for just three weeks at the time of the commission of the current offence.

His parole was cancelled and he is serving out his sentence, which expires on January 6, 2022.

Defence lawyer Liesel Rogan told the court her client had a prejudicial upbringing and attended Southport State High School.

She ascribed his “bizarre” behaviour to the consumption of five points of ice the day of the offence.

Drugs had been a problem for McLeod since the age of 21, Ms Rogan told the court.

McLeod was sentenced to five months’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for a period of 14 months.
