A former Brisbane premier rugby union player has fronted court after he was caught using drugs in a Sunshine Coast car park on New Year’s Eve.

Maroochydore Magistrates Court was told Samual Ajith Von Blanckensee, 24, was busted snorting cocaine off his phone with a rolled up $50 note in an Ocean St car park during New Year’s celebrations on January 1.

Police prosecutor Stephen Potter said police then searched the Toowong man and found a small bag containing one gram of cocaine.

“The defendant told police he recently purchased cocaine from another person and was aware he was committing an offence,” Sergeant Potter said.

Defence lawyer Katie Patterson said her client, who was born in Gympie but now lives in Brisbane, was visiting the Sunshine Coast over the Christmas break and had gone out with friends to celebrate New Year’s, where he bought the drugs.
