ROAD workers who detained a drunk man who tried to drive off in one of their utes have been praised by police.
About 8.15pm yesterday, police received a report that a man had stolen the ute of road workers who were line-marking on Noosa Parade at Noosa Heads.
Criminal Investigation Branch officer in charge Daren Edwards said the workers restrained a 42-year-old man after the ute was stopped in the middle of the road.
“Great work by them,” he said.
Police allege the man, from Noosa, was heavily intoxicated and identified him as being involved in a disturbance at Grill’d earlier in the evening.
He was charged with the unlawful use of a motor vehicle, driving under the influence of liquor and unlicensed driving.
He received bail and is set to appear at Noosa Magistrates Court on October 8.
Detective Senior Sergeant Edwards said workers leaving their keys in utes was an ongoing problem.
