A Bli Bli roofer has been fined after he drunkenly lost his shorts on the same night he damaged property at Alexandra Headland.

The Maroochydore Magistrates Court was told on Monday how Riki Mikura, 24, had been out on the town at Mooloolaba for a 21st prior to committing his offence at the beachside suburb on May 4.

Police prosecutor Stephen Potter said CCTV footage showed the 25-year-old walking in an intoxicated state along Victor St about 11.25pm.

Sergeant Potter said Mikura entered a vacant block and approached a Colorbond fence that separated two properties and tried to climb it, but in the process left a dent before he knocked an entire panel out.

He then left the scene without making any contact to report his damage.

The court was told a report was made to police on May 9 by the owner of the vacant block and a nearby apartment’s body corporate with footage provided showing the roofer in the vicinity at the time.

The police prosecutor said a pair of pants, wallet and phone belonging to the 25-year-old were also found on the same night, while a witness who saw Mikura gave a description to police.

He later spoke to Caloundra Police on August 5 after he found out officers were “looking for him” in relation to the wilful damage.

In an interview he told police he was at Mooloolaba for a 21st and drank heavily that night and didn’t remember the incident. The Bli Bli man said also confirmed he lost his shorts, phone and wallet.

Sergeant Potter said Mikura was remorseful with police when he was shown stills of the footage.

Duty lawyer Cherise Breese said the roofer had paid back the damages for the fence and was angry with himself for getting that intoxicated.

Mikura pleaded guilty to wilful damage and was fined $500 by magistrate Rod Madsen, with a conviction recorded.
