Police have found blood at the scene of a violent home invasion, after an elderly man and his wife were attacked by four men who broke into their rural Sunshine Coast home.

Senior Sergeant Craig Mansfield said police were continuing their investigations and had found blood at Burys Rd, Beerwah property.

“We’ve located some forensics and some blood at the scene,” he said.

“So we’re now waiting for our DNA examinations.”

Police believe the blood found at the scene was the offenders, not the victims.

Police allege four men smashed their way into the house via a glass door while armed with baseball bats and a gun around 11.30pm Monday, November 27.

They threatened two people at the home, striking the male victim on the arm with a bat, before stealing several personal items, including mobile phones, before fleeing the scene.

Several hours later, paramedics were called to the Beerwah home at 3.28am on Tuesday.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the 75-year-old man had arm injuries and was taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Mansfield described it as a “pretty harrowing incident” for the victims.

“A violent altercation occurred as there was forced entry made into our victim’s address, smashed their way through a sliding glass door using what we believe is a weapon of some sort, probably a baseball bat or something similar,” Sergeant Mansfield said.

“The two elderly occupants were detained in their own bedroom, they were held there against their will for a period of time and then assaulted with a weapon.

“They’re pretty terrified as a result of what’s occurred to them.”

Sergeant Mansfield urged members of the public, particularly those living in the area, to come forward with any information on the incident.

“We’re very early on in the investigations, they’ve fled the area by unknown means at this point in time, so we’re really hoping that some of the residents in the immediate area and around Beerwah will be able to help us with some directions of travel,” he added.

“We’re really hoping that someone in the community has observed something as they’re driving past with dashcam or have any CCTV in the area, it would be really helpful.”

Ernie Botting, who has lived on the street for a long time, said it’s usually a nice quiet area.

“Never any trouble, it’s always been very good here,” Mr Botting said.

“This is terrible, you can’t go through anything like that, that is not on.”

Although he didn’t know his neighbours personally, Mr Botting said he waves to them occasionally.

“They’re good, they’ve been here a number of years, they do a business,” he said.

“It’s not on, it’s not on, these are good guys, there is no reason to do anything like that.

“These things never happen, not in this area, it’s not known for this sort of thing around here, they’re all good people.”

Anyone with information that could assist with the investigation is urged to contact police.
